Resting on the beautiful bank of River Isar, the Hellabrunn Zoo is the oldest Geo-Zoo arranged geographically by the continents and natural habitats of the creatures. It was established in 1911 and was the first zoo worldwide to have animals kept together according to where they came from. This zoo spans across 89 acres that houses more than 19,000 animals from 757 different species. The animals live here in open closures intended to copy the wild conditions with animals that usually share habitat kept together wherever possible.

The popular features of the zoo include the Elephant House, a huge 5000 sq. m. free-flight aviary, the ape houses, and the Polarium. Hellabrunn Zoo is a perfect place to entertain the young ones and adults alike as well as to provide an understanding of the extensive range of animal species housed here. In the year 2013, this zoo received the prestigious award for being the 4th best zoo in entire Europe. Also, the zoo contains various delightful footpaths, picnic spots, and playgrounds.
