Schlossplatz Stuttgart (Palace Square)

Green Space Always Open (possibly closed due Covid-19 restrictions) Check location

Located in the heart of Stuttgart, Schlossplatz is a central square surrounded by structures dating from the city’s past as a royal capital. Originally it was used as a military parade ground and not opened for general public use. The benches and green lawns are famous among people to catch some sun and stunning gardens are ideal to stroll in pleasant weather. In its center, Jubilee Column is erected in 1841 to commemorate King William I’s 25 years of rule. Here, one can spot a fountain, cast-iron bandstand, and some pieces of Hajek, Calder, and Hrdlicka.

One side of the square has Konigstrasse which is 1200-m-long shopping street while on the other side is the huge Neues Schloss (New Palace) – a Baroque-style building built in 1807 to be used as a home by the former kings. During November, this square is transformed into a children’s Christmas Market featuring a miniature village, skating rink, and holiday rides.
