Formed in the 16th century due a sea retreat, it’s one of the most important rias in Portugal. This is also the mouth of the Rio Vouga, a beautiful and stunning landscape in Portugal. The length of the Ria is about 45 kilometers and the estuary involved has 11,000 hectares. It presents an amazing biodiversity.

The fish, flamingos, herons and birds are some of the animals that can be seen in this Ria. The production of salt is also done in here and it used to be before, and it’s one of the main working activities in Aveiro. This Ria is key to the development of the region, since fishing and the production of salt are both linked to the growth of Aveiro.
