Psaromoura is located 22km northwest of Heraklion, just 500m north of Agia Pelagia. Like all beaches in the area, it faces to the east and is sheltered from the northwest winds usually blowing in the area. Right on the beach there are no hotels or restaurants, but there many facilities within walking distance. The beach is pebbly and is very popular to locals, rather than tourists. On the north end there is a large rock with many foldings (the typical phyllitic stone of the wider area of Talea Range), which protects the beach from the waves.

Till a few years ago Psaromoura was totally unorganized and was one of the most beautiful beaches in Crete. Unfortunately, this paradise could not resist to the financial interests and has now become a common beach full of umbrellas, sun beds and a canteen that offers drinks and cocktails. Environmental organizations of Crete have several times requested the removal of umbrellas from the beach, in order this to return to its original condition.
