Paral lelBuilt from the 1929 International Exposition, quickly became one of the most important squares of Barcelona.

Located at the foot of Montjuïc, it is the junction of several the most important streets of Barcelona, such as Gran Via, Carrer de Tarragona and Avigunda del Paral·lel.

The majestic fountain at the centre was designed by a collaborator of Antonio Gaudí, Josep Maria Jujol and the statues were designed by Miquel Blay.

Around the square there are important building of Barcelona: the 47 meters high Venetian Towers, modelled on the campanile of St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, the bullring Arenas de Barcelona, built in 1900 and which is now a shopping centre and the Park of Joan Miró and its 22-metre high statue Woman and Bird, a statue commissioned to Miró as a way to welcome visitors in Barcelona.

The Fira of Barcelona, one of the most important trade fair in Europe, is also one of the important venues around Plaza Espanya.
