Piscina das Marés

Monument & Heritage Check location

Located on Leça Beach, the Swimming Polls is a set of salt water pools, fed by sea water.

Built between 1960 and 1966, it is one of the first projects of the Siza Vieira aquitect, making it one of the most sought after and visited architectural spaces in the city.

Sometimes being overlooked by those who pass by on the street, the Swimming Pools is inserted in the rocks, creating an atmosphere of harmony between the sea, rocks, sand and public road, thus showing how architecture can be adapt to the surrounding environment.

Considered in 2006 a National Monument, the project includes two saltwater swimming pools (one for children only), locker rooms and changing rooms and a bar/cafeteria.
