Palácio e Centro Cultural Vila Flor

Monument & Heritage Check location

Built in the mid-18th century by the Carvalhos family, this stunning palace is decorated with several granite statues depicting the first kings of Portugal. Later, it belonged to the Jordão family, who completed the work that was begun by Tadeu Luis Antonio Lopes de Carvalho Fonseca in the 18th century.

The facade faces a stunning garden with three levels, decorated with fountains from the Baroque Period – a truly stunning example of the architecture of this time period.

The Palace underwent a loving restoration in 2005 and a Cultural Center of the same name was also built on the site. Within the two auditoriums of the Cultural Center there are often performances, art shows and conferences. It is one of the many locations within this UNESCO World Heritage city where art and culture is celebrated and enjoyed.

This Guimarães attraction is a captivating balance between ancient history and modern culture.
