Museu da Cultura Castreja

Museum Check location

This museum is dedicated to one of the pioneers of Portuguese archeology, Francisco Martins Sarmento. It is located within the Solar da Ponte, an elegant and stately building that was built in the 18th century and restored for this purpose. It is unique as it is the first museum dedicated to Celtic culture in the peninsular northwest.

The museum contains two general components – a display of the life and work of the archeologist Martins Sarmento and a collection of the archeological remains that were collected in the excavations of Citânia de Briteiros and Castro de Sabroso.

This museum is a fascinating attraction, because of the stunning architecture of the building as well as the intriguing collection of well-preserved items from the distant past.
