Lérab Ling is a retreat center of the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism founded in 1991 by Sogyal Rinpoche. It is part of the network of Rigpa centers founded by the same master. The center is in the commune of Roqueredonde, near Lodève and the Causse du Larzac plateau.

The name “Lérab Ling” means “sanctuary of awakened activity” in Tibetan, and comes from the predecessor of Sogyal Rinpoche, Lerab Lingpa, who was one of the masters of the Dalai Lama. Lerab Ling is a member of the Buddhist Union of France and was officially recognized in 2002 as a religious congregation. The Dalai Lama visited the Lerab Ling International Retreat Center twice in 2000 to bless the temple’s construction site and in 2008 to inaugurate the temple.

The construction of the temple, with the Tibetan name Palri Pema Ösel Dargyé Ling, was completed in 2006. It was designed and built in the style of an authentic traditional Tibetan temple, and decorations were made by craftsmen from India, Nepal and Bhutan.

The temple is open to the public on Sunday afternoon, depending on the time of year. Since 2002, the Lérab Ling Institute of Wisdom and Compassion has organized the International Forums of Buddhism and Medicine, the aim of which is to present and multiply the links between Buddhist science of mind and Western science, medicine and western therapy. These forums bring together Buddhist teachers and representatives from the worlds of science, medicine, psychiatry and psychotherapy to exchange their approaches on the treatment and healing of both physical and mental pathologies.
