Jardin des Plantes

Green Space Open in this Schedule Check location

Located on boulevard Henri IV, the garden was created in 1593 by Pierre Richer de Belleval on royal edict, it is the oldest establishment of the kind in France. There are few specimens dating from this period, a live oak, a Judea tree and a monticulus. It almost disappeared at the Revolution.

Today it is still visited by a large number of visitors such as botanists, doctors, pharmacists and students ,as well as lovers of flora and tourists ,since its opening to the public in 1841.

Poets in love with the nature find their inspiration around a mysterious tomb (Narcissa) great literary place for André Gide and Paul Valéry. The garden has successive installations, including a pond (populated by frogs), a landscaped garden “in English” of the second empire and many other curiosities.
