Hôtel de Varennes

Monument & Heritage Check location

Registered as a historical monument since 1944, this is a medieval residence refurbished in the 18th century by the trader Fulcrand Roux.

The hotel is composed of two patrician houses from the 13th and 14th centuries, which were progressively altered in the 15th and 17th centuries. The restoration in the 18th century stands out by its museum-like retention of the traces of modifications, made in the previous centuries, on the medieval structures that have been brought to light.

The Gothic rooms on the ground floor are used as meeting rooms (Salle Petrarch) and house the University of the Tiers Times. Upstairs is the Old Montpellier Museum and the Fougau Museum.
