One of Amsterdam’s finest hidden gems, Homomonument is a unique monument from the 1980s located on the Keizersgracht Canal in the center of the city. Designed by activist Karin Daan, this gay monument takes the shape of a triangle and was built to commemorate all LGBTI people who have been persecuted through the years.

An interesting fact is that all three triangles are strategically positioned and point in different directions including the Dam Square, Anne Frank House, and the headquarters of COC Nederland which is the world’s oldest gay rights organization. The triangle that points to the famous Anne Frank House has a nice inscription from a poem written by a gay Jewish poet.
