Catedral de Aveiro

This cathedral dates back to the 15th century, when it was the Convento de S. Domingos. Between the 16th and 17th centuries, there were conservation constructions where the lateral naves were converted into devotional chapels. The nave was reconstructed in the 18th century. There are tiles in the walls from the 18th century. On the walls there are tiles of the 18th century, in which the ones on the right represent a panorama of the the city Osma in Spain where S. Domingos de Gusmão was born. The ones on the left represent the city of Bologna in Italy where he died.

New constructions were made between 1974 and 1976. The structure of the cathedral is made of iron and concrete and the walls lined with a modern material that does not produce echo. Since 1996 it is classified as Property of Public Interest.
