Welcome to Munich
The city of art and beer, Germany’s Munich needs little introduction. The capital of Bavaria and a city of authentic biergartens and lederhosen, Munich is well-known for its opulent Baroque churches, palaces, museums, and of course the number one beer festival in the world, the popular Oktoberfest that attracts more than 6 million people.
Fans of art will want to spend a day at the Kunstareal art quarter, while culture vultures can explore famous attractions like the Residenz Royal Palace and the Bavarian State Opera. The good news is that many popular attractions in Munich are located in the city center, making it easy to walk from one place to the next.
Breweries
With 6 major breweries and hundreds of beer gardens and halls, it comes as no surprise that when people think of Munich, they think of beer. From Augustiner Bräu on Landsberger Straße where you can drink beer and mingle with the locals to Hofbräuhaus which is popular with tourists, finding a beer garden in Munich has never been easier.
Munich is also home to the Oktoberfest, the world’s largest beer festival. However, there is more to Munich than beer. The charming Pinakothek art museums, the Neue, Alte, and Moderne are some of the must-visit attractions, as well as places for sports fans like Allianz Arena, Jochen Schweizer Arena, and Olympiapark.
Shopaholics will be delighted to hear that Munich is one of the best shopping destinations in Germany. High street brands can be found on the popular Kaufinger Straße, Holareidulijö is an excellent place for second-hand shopping, and Flohmarkt Riem Rummage is the largest flea market in Bavaria.
